A Day At The Orphanage

Well we continue to receive God's Blessings!
Today we were met by Katie, a medical student from the U.S., who is studying here in Buenos Aires.  She took us by bus to City Belle, where we spent the day in service to the orphanage, Hogar Infantil, Bethel.  ( www.hogarbethel.org)  There was a great need for paint, supplies and painting to be done there.  We sanded, scraped, and sanded and scraped, and then the painting began.  So, with paint brush in hand, we started.  They were adding additional rooms to the dormitories, so the need was definitely there.
We met many beautiful children of all ages and some seemed to be quite taken with us.  A young lad named Claudio gave Dennis a ball cap, and then brought cotton balls for us for our ears as the noise from the sanding was quite intense.  Dennis seems to make friends where ever he goes!  Two little girls followed Carole, Ramona and I for a while, and loved being held and carried.
In the midst of our service we were treated to lunch with the children.  We were given homemade soup, bread, empanadas and polenta.  Then back to work.  We managed to get two coats of stain on the ceilings of the two bedrooms. (Ask Dennis about his painting technique!)  The first coat was hard work and took some time, but by the time the second coat was finished, the transformation was astounding!  The  walls were then white washed one coat.  The walls are concrete so seemed to soak up a fair bit of the white wash.  Before we knew it our time was soon done.
We left them with a generous donation, because in conversation with Katie we learned that their need was indeed great.
Back on the bus we went!  After about an hour on the bus, we were back in Buenos Aires, a short taxi ride and we were at our home away from home.  As we compose this we are sitting on the roof top patio, enjoying the sunset and thinking of you all, and all we have to share when we return.  Off to see a Tango!!

Love to you all!

  2. What beautiful children - I can see how easy it would be to fall in love with them all. I can only hope that this time together showed them some love and acceptance of the things they can accomplish in their lives. You were truly blessed to have spent the day with them all. Thank you for taking the time to work with them all.

    Travel safely !

  7. I just saw You yesterday, it was lighter than the moon.
I am no doubt, it was a clearly vision,
my heart jumped when I saw You

I just saw You yesterday, I was looking for You
early as every morning and I asked You several times
to let me see Your face when I was praying
    but I saw You yesterday...

I saw You in the street, in a homeless child
I saw You in his hands searching something to eat
I saw you in his eyes and his short smile,
    I just saw You yesterday.
I saw You in a hospital room, crying lonely
I saw You on a sad face of some ill
without hope to live, tired to suffer
    I just saw You yesterday

You dress up and hide from my eyes but I saw you Yesterday, I just saw You yesterday
